Swedish doom-bringer and pipe organ master Anna von Hausswolff has announced the October 31 release of ICONOCLASTS, her first new studio album in 5 years.

Having signed with Stockholm-based label YEAR0001 (formerly home to Yung Lean, Viagra Boys, and Bladee), ICONOCLASTS marks a new, poppier chapter for von Hausswolff, featuring collaborations with Iggy Pop, Ethel Cain, Abul Mogard, and her sister Maria von Hausswolff.

Partly inspired by the Greek myth of Atlas, who carries the world on his shoulders, ICONOCLASTS was co-produced by von Hausswolff and her longtime collaborator Filip Leyman, and expands her musical palette to include brass courtesy of Swedish virtuoso saxophonist Otis Sandsjö.

Writing in a press release, von Hausswolff expands on the idea behind "Stardust", saying, “Let's break up with basic convenience and established ideas of how to live life. Let's not roll our thumbs when the world is crumbling.” 

Speaking on “The Whole Woman”, she adds: 

“Sometimes we need to throw ourselves into the deepest of waters and hold our breath as long as we can. Once we reach the surface we can see beyond the pettiness of life and speak only the truth. This love song is a tribute to the man who knows how to listen; it is for the woman who is brave enough to dive in.”

In other news, Leyman and von Hausswolff recently scored the soundtrack to Spanish director Lucía Aleñar Iglesias' feature-length debut Forastera, which premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. Meanwhile, Leyman's debut album Soft Light releases next week (29 August) on von Hausswolff's own label Pomperipossa Records. Listen to lead single "Beyond the Sea" over on Bandcamp.
