Anjimile announces new album 'You're Free to Go', releases first single

Singer-songwriter Anjimile (the mononym of Anjimile Chithambo) is back with a brand new record. You're Free to Go, out March 13 on 4AD, follows up his sophomore record The King from 2023, and was produced by Brad Cook (Waxahatchee, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Mavis Staples).

Anjimile has also shared the first single, "Like You Really Mean It", which comes with a Caity Arthur-directed video. Watch below:

Of the new song, Anjimile offers:

"I wrote this to make my girlfriend want to give me a kiss. We live about an hour apart, and I was just by myself thinking about her. Thinking about wanting a kiss. What could I do to get a kiss from my sweetheart? Write a song about it! Anyway, it worked."

The album was inspired by life changes, breakups, loss and grief, renewal, discovery. The title refers directly to the "joyful embrace" of non-monogamy that he shares with his partner. "I view non-monogamy as setting out milk every night on your porch for the cats," he says. "They can come if they want."

This news follows his last single, "Auld Lang Syne II", which does not appear on the album.
