Indie rock experimenters Animal Collective are no stranger to keeping lots of solo and side projects alongside the main gig, so it should come as no surprise that there's a new one forming.
Avey Tare and Geologist (aka Dave Portner and Brian Weitz) are branding together to form Croz Boyce, with a self-titled record out May 8 via Domino. And with the news, they've also shared first single, "Hanging Out With a Blueberry Pop", along a video directed by Joseph Ricketts.
Watch/listen below:
In addition to the core duo, Croz Boyce's record was mixed by fellow AnCo member Deakin. The LP is described in a press release as such:
"What if 40 minutes of instrumental music made by two friends passing files across state lines could capture the range of human experience, or at least a disproportionate chunk of it—worry and camaraderie, hope and frustration, tenderness and absurdity? That is the question that steadily emerges across the nine tracks of the self-titled debut from Croz Boyce."
Reportedly, Portner and Weitz started developing this project around the time David Crosby died, and so their shared file folder was named "Croz Boys," which then got retooled into the project's proper name.
The last solo Avey Tare album was 2023's 7s, whereas Geologist issued his solo debut LP just this year with Can I Get a Pack of Camel Lights? back in January.
