Angela Autumn, the Appalachian-born/Nashville-based musician, will release her second album, Believer, on September 11 via Gar Hole Records. The record’s early singles, “Mountain Stream” and “Heavy Tobacco,” have been drawing the attention.

This week brings new song “I Don’t Think About You At All,” alongside a self-directed music video shot just outside of Banff, Canada. Watch and listen below:

On the new single, Autumn says:

“Very similar to Mountain Stream, this song was me integrating some deeper traumas and writing about them. I truly feel that we see ourselves most clearly through our creations, and this song helped me heal a side of myself that needed special attention. It started out as a banjo drone song with just a riff played on the lower string. I showed my ex the demo (who the song was written about) and he said yeah it’s like Chini Baba, and his response kind of led me to want to record the song.”

Nicknamed “The Rose of Appalachia,” a nod to her Allegheny roots and clawhammer banjo skills, Autumn is fresh off support touts with Bonny Light Horseman and Langhorne Slim, and was previously awarded the SXSW Developing Artist Grulke Prize, a distinction that in past years has gone to the likes of Leon Bridges, HAIM, Anderson .Paak, and Future Islands. 

Believer was written in the great outdoors, in the woods of Tennessee, a rural treehouse outside Asheville, and a friend’s warehouse in Chattanooga, and made with multi-instrumentalist and producer Baerd (Isaiah Beard).

“I wanted to merge different aspects of myself,” Autumn says of the album. “A lot of my friends are dancers, strippers, and body workers, and I like making music they can move their body to. With Believer, I wanted to make something with more attitude.”
