Ane Brun announces new record 'I Thought We Were The Same'

Singer-songwriter Ane Brun is back in the game. Six years on from her last new material – which took shape in two full albums in 2020: How Beauty Holds the Hand of Sorrow and After the Great Storm – she is returning with I Thought We Were The Same, out November 6 via BMG.

Listen to the first single "Hold Me," which was co-written with Norwegian electronic artist ARY below, along with an Elis Lindsten-directed video:

The album is being promised as Brun's most personal work yet. “With this album, I wanted to experiment with how far I could take my music into a clearer and more pop sound with distinct choruses and hooks without the music losing its nerve,” she says, going on:

“This album became a way of understanding how deeply trust lives in us. It’s extraordinary that we continue to trust each other, knowing it can be broken at any moment. That vulnerability is one of the most beautiful things about being human. Maybe we should all be more aware of how valuable it is that someone trusts us.”

In addition to ARY, the record also features contributions from Röyksopp and Emilie Nicolas.

Since her double album, Brun has kept busy, between working with Gothenburg Opera Dance Company's Kenneth Kvarnström on a contemporary dance piece using her music, and releasing a second voluem of her Rarities collection. She also collaborated AURORA on the 2024 song "My Name."
