American Football release live album early, donating proceeds to CalFund

The legendary step-fathers-in-law of midwest emo, American Football, have released a limited edition of their upcoming live album to Bandcamp today (February 7) according to their Twitter/X.

Until February 9, American Football (Live in Los Angeles) is available as a pay-what-you-want download, starting at five dollars. The album will be officially released by Polyvinyl Records sometime in the Spring of 2025 according to the band’s post on Twitter, but the exact date is still to be determined, as well as if it will include additional content.

The live album was recorded on October 12 and 13 2024 at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles while the band was touring the 25th anniversary edition of their self-titled record commonly referred to as, LP1. The band released the record early in response to the devastation caused by the L.A. wildfires. According to a statement from the band:

“Our first and only live album will receive an official release down the road, but given the timing, immediacy, and feeling of helplessness from afar, we’ve decided to offer an early sneak peek as part of Bandcamp’s California Wildfire Relief Fundraiser taking place Friday, February 7.”

Reportedly, Bandcamp will be donating their sales fee to MusiCares to support musicians affected by the fire, while the band and Polyvinyl will be donating 100% of the record sales across the weekend to the California Community Fund.

This incarnation of the record includes nine tracks, primarily from LP1, and features supporting acts Ethel Cain and M.A.G.S.
