NYC-based singer/songwriter Allegra Krieger has dropped a surprise new album under the name of gentle boxer, showing a whole new side to her artistry. Recorded over the winter just gone, my heart is a gentle boxer is described on Krieger’s Bandcamp page as “found sound in the dank haze + lace over my eyes,” and on Instagram as a “new home for instrumental + noisy experimental janky."
Krieger plays every instrument on the record, except for some synth work on “Sweetheart” by hip-hop artist canteenkilla, who also lends his vocals to the song and one other. The song “From a different place” features the voice of writer Anne Carson reading her 2016 work “An Essay on Threat.”
