The Swedish Music Hall of Fame continues its tradition of celebrating the giants of Swedish music, bridging generations with a diverse lineup of artists in its tenth induction.

This year, seven new inductees have taken their rightful place in Swedish music history: Ace of Base, Lisa Ekdahl, Eldkvarn, José González, Refused, Alice Tegnér, and Freddie Wadling. These artists, each of whom debuted over 20 years ago, have contributed in their unique ways to shaping Sweden’s sound and beyond. Here’s a closer look at each inductee.

Ace of Base

Active Years: 1990–present

Ace of Base defined the sound of Swedish pop in the '90s with their infectious melodies and groundbreaking production. Their hit "All That She Wants" became a worldwide sensation, and their debut album Happy Nation/The Sign sold millions globally. Their sound influenced countless pop acts, earning them a spot among the most significant Swedish music exports.

Lisa Ekdahl

Active Years: 1994–present

Lisa Ekdahl is known for her delicate voice and a unique blend of jazz, folk, and pop. She has continuously evolved as an artist, embracing a range of genres while keeping her signature sound.

Eldkvarn

Active Years: 1971–2015

Eldkvarn has been a cornerstone of Swedish rock for decades, known for their poetic lyrics and raw sound. Their career spans over 40 years, with songs that explore life’s hardships and triumphs. The band’s unique sound blends folk, rock, and punk, making them pioneers in Swedish rock history.

José González

Active Years: 2003–present

José González brought Swedish music to global indie and folk audiences with his understated acoustic sound. His breakout single "Heartbeats," a cover of The Knife’s electro-pop hit, became iconic in its own right. Refused

Active Years: 1991–1998, 2012–present

Refused is a hardcore punk band whose 1998 album The Shape of Punk to Come redefined the genre. Known for their incendiary political lyrics and innovative sound, Refused’s influence extends beyond punk to shape alternative music globally. Their reunion in 2012 reignited interest in their groundbreaking work.

Alice Tegnér

Active Years: 1892–1943

Alice Tegnér is one of Sweden's most beloved composers, particularly for her work in children's music. Songs like "Bä, bä vita lamm" have become staples in Swedish culture, passed down through generations. Her contributions laid the foundation for much of Sweden’s musical heritage.

Freddie Wadling

Active Years: 1978–2016

Freddie Wadling’s voice was one of the most distinctive in Sweden’s music scene, blending goth, punk, and avant-garde influences. His eclectic style made him a cult figure, admired for his depth, darkness, and emotional intensity. Wadling’s artistry transcended genres, and his music continues to inspire.
