Following the release of last year’s the Way Out, which was one of my favorite 2010 albums, the Books spent a day last week recording a session with the good people at Daytrotter. Follow the link below and hear four tracks, which include “Tokyo” and “Free Translator”: The Books

On his latest release, John Maus has brought a little more atmosphere into the fold when crafting the odd, bite-sized synth pop nuggets that fill his full-lengths. While tracks like “Believer” feel like grand bedroom rock opuses, other tracks fall by the wayside because of a lack of structure, memorability,

WU LYF’s debut album rides in on a tidal wave of reverb and eccentric yelps from the band’s lead singer. While it does have a uniform sound and a style, I feel like the style drowns out what this band has to offer in this songs most of

Back in April, I got turned on to one of the oddest MCs I’m sure I’ll hear this year: Zeroh. The Wedidit Collective member has a new mixtape out, consisting of beats lifted from Flying Lotus, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Flako, Mndsgn, Devonwho and more. Of course, the surreal

On its latest release, Woods make their sound a little sunnier with brighter guitar leads and attitudes. But some of the songs here just feel too unfinished to really feel memorable or exciting for me. I dig this band a lot, but I almost feel like I’ve fallen off
