James Blake’s new EP, much like his self-titled debut earlier this year, is loaded with ideas that, to me, don’t feel completely finished. Still, the guy draws up some interesting concepts–even as he attempts to focus more on building songs on voice and piano this time around.
Here’s the opening track to the latest Taake album, Noregs Vaapen. “Fra Vadested Til Vaandesmed” is a very nicely recorded piece of melodic black metal. The guitar leads feel pretty damn righteous at some points. There’s enough variation to keeps things interesting, too. Look for this album now

California’s Ghoul is a metal outfit I’m starting to admire for two reasons. First off, their music offers a pretty nice blend of death metal and thrash metal. Nice! But what’s also interesting about this group is that they manage to reinforce just about every metal stereotype
