Here we have the new one from Waxahachee, the alt-country, the indie and alt country project spearheaded by Alabama singer songwriter Katie Crutchfield.
It's the 6th LP under the Waxahachee name, and I don't think Katie's music here could be sounding more slick, mature and professionally assembled. It almost sounds like something I would hear ruling the radio waves in the nineties and some kind of songwriter alt-rock country crossover craze. It's not a novel sound, but what it lacks in originality it makes up for in tasteful songwriting and professional skill.
With that being said, for my money, I think I'm looking for something that's just a bit more vibrant and thrilling. I also think the production on the recent planes record the duo Katie is also involved in was a lot more dazzling and pretty. I still think this is going to be one of the most solid records you will hear in this lane in 2024.
So, if that all country thing is your vibe, you should probably give it a shot.
What do you think?
