“Zebra,” the new track from Oneohtrix Point Never, is a formless and sprawling seven-minute-long piece whose only through-line is its incredibly choppy foundational loops. However, the choppy, jarring foundation is aptly accented by ethereal, occasionally jazzy touches throughout. The result is the type of sonic juxtaposition OPN has struck many times in his work before, but the contrast has never been quite as extreme as it is here. Check it out above!
“Zebra” will appear on OPN’s upcoming Warp Records debut, R Plus Seven, due out October 1. Here’s hoping it will satisfy as much as 2011’s Replica did:
