of Montreal - "Fugitive Air"

Yesterday, the eminent indie pop act, of Montreal, announced that it has a new album called lousy with sylvianbriar due out October 8th via Polyvinyl. The LP was recorded in a home studio on a 24-track tape machine, resulting in a set of 11 songs that frontman Kevin Barnes describes as “lyric driven” and as featuring instrumental arrangements that are “understated” and “uncluttered.”

The band also unveiled the album opener, “fugitive air,” which offers a compositional and structural immediacy that the group has been shying away from with past releases. The track is bouncy, featuring decidedly conventional rock instrumentation, and is given a welcome twang by a prominent slide guitar. Perhaps more importantly, Barnes proves that he is still as engaging a frontman as they come–his rebellious lyrics and flamboyant inflection on this single offer a fresh, characteristically candid perspective on Barnes as a person.
