Candy Claws - Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time

It’s been a while since I’ve heard some new, ear-catching output from Colorado music outfit Candy Claws. Their music has always showcased a deep appreciation for lush, colorful, and melodic psychedelic pop. The singing feels like a bit of musical wallpaper from time to time, though; however, I attribute that more to Candy Claws toeing the dream pop line, not a bad performance or vocal shortcoming.

Truth be told, despite the “shy” voice fronting this record, the music is actually quite ambitious. Candy Claws manages to deliver some pretty sharp melodies into the 12 tracks on, Ceres & Calypso. Many of them are executed with instrumentation that sounds pretty joyous, too. Candy Claws definitely isn’t letting their slightly lo-fi aesthetic keep them from crafting a dramatic, refined, and jubilant record.
