There are a lot of instrumental beat tapes floating around the internet these days. Despite the abundance of music in this style, it’s pretty common to find either a strong Flying Lotus, J Dilla, or Madlib influence on the typically short tracks.
However, Ahnnu seems to evade all three on these 22 beats that are rhythmic in nature, but sometimes feel more like abstract and heavily manipulated sound tapestries. I’m not enthralled with every track, but Ahnnu is certainly onto something.
