Sirs- Self-Titled

I imagine a self-titled debut that’s officially released on a label of any size is a pivotal moment for just about any band. And while there’s truly no shortage of self-titled debuts these days, that doesn’t make Sirs’ full-length milestone any less significant.

The band displays a lot of emo and screamo tendencies, like a lot of its labelmates on Topshelf Records, but there’s an boisterous and catchy punk energy that prevents even the most emotionally intense tracks here from getting too dark. It’s a listener-dependent blessing, I suppose. I’m marking it as a pro, not a con.

The production’s good, there’s a clear variety among the tracks that comes out on a first listen, and there’s a sense of chemistry to listening to these guys play together, too.
