Rhode Island MC B. Dolan has recently released House of Bees Vol. 2 , a mixtape that follows his 2010 LP Fallen House, Sunken City. Produced by Buddy Peace, the tape also features appearances from the likes of Sage Francis, Jasiri X, and Toki Wright, as well as a remix from Ghostly International‘s Mux Mool. The release is available to stream for free or purchase for $10 above via Dolan’s Bandcamp.
Those that prefer their hip hop with a highly lyrical focus should be particularly attentive, because B. Dolan’s specialty lies in his thought-provoking and socially conscious verses. The production, however, also doesn’t slack. Touches of experimentation keep the beats feeling fresh, such as with the cinematic opener “Still Here” and the rock-indebted beat of “King Bee.” Still, even with memorable beats at the album’s disposal, it is ultimately B. Dolan’s strong lyrics and attention-commanding delivery that provide it drive.
