It was only June of last year that Marissa Nadler released her self-titled fifth album, but the prolific singer-songwriter is already planning to put out another LP this year. Titled The Sister, the album is slated to drop on May 29, slightly less than a year after the release of Marissa Nadler. Nadler gave us our first taste of the LP a few months ago with the track “The Wrecking Ball Company,” and we now have another song, “Apostle,” to hold us over.
Sonically, the track shows Nadler picking up where she left off with her last record, compiling her confident yet delicate vocals, finger-picked guitar, and minimal instrumentation into a gorgeous result. The atmosphere is ethereal, but unlike those in much other dreamlike music, the vocals take a front seat role in driving the song, rather than acting simply as a sound or texture.
Listen to the song above, and look for The Sister near the end of the month via Nadler’s Box of Cedar Records.
