Been getting a lot of comments and messages about this new Fleet Foxes track, and I can see why. After you’ve already been exposed to a band you end up liking, it’s hard to get the rush of your initial exposure once again. However, I didn’t suffer from that problem on “Helplessness Blues.” Gargantuan, strumming guitars and lyrics about working like a cog in the machinery of life make the world loom large. It’s enough to scare some into locking doors and bolting windows.
But it doesn’t need to be that way. As the vocal harmonies soar, the lyrics read “What good is it to sing helplessness blues?” Gotta agree on that one.
