As many of y’all may remember, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Toro Y Moi’s debut album, which dropped earlier this year. At the end of the day, I feel Causers had more possibilities than actualities.
Toro is gearing up for another album release in February, and it’s titled Underneath the Pine. He’s still doing it through Carpark, and has got a much more fleshed out sound on this first track to drop from the album.
“Still Sound” has a great retro beat that sounds like it’s straight out of the 70s. Toro seems to have worked harder on getting his vocals on key, and he’s not using as much reverb to distort himself in the mix. It’s a nice change of pace. The chorus is upbeat, and I love the jazzy synth chords that bubble in the background. Dig on it:
