“Only Existing Footage” is the latest single from John Darnielle’s side project, the Extra Lens. Think “Day For Night” done over in an acoustic retelling. The lyrics are as sharp and, well, detailed as ever. The lighting glare and runaway script girl will make you glad you aren’t working this job. Darnielle’s director even laments that “Oblivion’s been calling since it found out where I live.”
The guitar interplay of Franklin Bruno and Darnielle make this song perfect for any coffee shop. The contemplative tone pairs well with your favorite morning bean. The album, “Undercard” comes out 10/19 via Merge.
