I have several record labels I can usually trust to hand me something that peaks my interest. Stones Throw is one of ’em, but this is surprisingly outside of their comfort zone. Hip hop is their main squeeze, but releasing this project is understandable. It’s almost too interesting not to.
Anika sings, Portishead’s Geoff Barrow produces, and the boys from Beak> bring the instrumentation. This thing is a serious mutant. It calls out to the heydays of female-fronted post-punk, but in a much creepier way.
What do you think?
