It’s fronted by a CT music producer with pretty varied tastes. His debut EP, Juchitán, is unapologetic as it shifts from the drone-heavy distortion of “FIghty Cat” to the feedback-laced minimalism on “Cenotes.” There are some recurring themes among the 6-song EP, though: samples, reverb, extremely obscured vocals, and danceable tempos.
“Canvas Shoes” has a start-of-summer feel that most will liken to Washed Out or Memory Tapes. The sunny guitars are undeniable, and the crisp beat comes through a sample of Tom Tom Club’s “Genius of Love.” The vocals croon over the mix, sounding completely unintelligible due to all the reverb. It’s a bit disorienting, but the steady beat keeps it all in place. Grab the track below, and download the 5 others on Change’s bandcamp page.
