Vanilla released a new mixtape. I cant post it in what are you listening to cause I'm not listening to it. It's not a 'leak'. There was no hype for it, he just released it. And it's not death grips.
that's such a boss song, I'm glad they performed it when I saw em last month (actually I think I saw them one of the first times they did that song live back in May)
and I'm happy I really came around on that Iceage track, I was put off a little bit by how upbeat it was, but I'm loving it now
I have a lot of choice words for Evangelion 3.0 that I'm going to need a couple months and a Blu-ray rip to parse, but one thing I have no qualms with is its soundtrack.
so thanks to boredom and Pitchfork's new album streaming thing I'm listening to the new Foxygen record despite not listening to anything of theirs before. I like it so far
damn the new ASIWYFA record is so overblown and positive and tropical at some points. Some people will totally find it obnoxious but fuck them I'm diggin' it quite a bit
Also pretty curious about the new Akron/Family album. They've never put out a bad album, even though I think their self-titled is by far their best.
I love how this song gets all Swans-y toward the end.
Speaking of Swans, this is from an excerpt of notes Michael Gira took while listening to the album: "Grizzled Beach Boys, fully bearded and flea infested willfully surrendering to the lysergic gas attack. Hold your shriveled ego and watch it unfold like a purple meat-flower in your grubby hand."
I actually still need to listen to the entirety of that one. I guess I'm not really in a position to say one of their albums is "by far their best" if I haven't listened to them all, but I do know that I consider their self-titled to be a very strong nine and none of the others I've listened to have come very close.
ATTN people who like BIBIO (first three releases anyway), DIRTWIRE, or people who the idea of instrumental guitar folk with heavy influences from psychedelic rock guitar solos, electronic and just a touch of funk, should check this release out.
Prince has lost it. I mean he used to be a bit out there but the music was great. Now he's a holly roller and he hasn't evolved his sound at all in about 15 years.
so that Loveless tribute album with all Japanese bands (including Boris doing "Sometimes") is out today. Once I get my computer back from the shop (which should be today) I'll definitely be giving it a listen
just downloaded Yellow Loveless (the Loveless tribute with Japanese bands), and I couldn't help but skip to Boris' rendition of "Sometimes" first. I thought it was an interesting choice considering I'd expect Boris to tackle one of the albums noisier pieces, but my god....this is phenomenal.
I enjoy the Bonobo track, but it seems to be A) kinda devoid of the jazzier/funkier feel which his previous tracks possessed which I enjoyed so much B) going down a road well travelled by the latest records of Caribou and Four Tet. Turning to the somewhat experimental (or organic sounding) club beat sound is starting to wear a bit thin.
@TTK I definitely noticed that he seems to be following down a similar path as Four Tet with that track. Still, I think it's well-crafted enough that it doesn't feel like he's just lazily jumping on that wagon.
