SUSHI is one of the most intelectual albums I’ve crossed in a while, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the ever-changing James Ferraro.

You were soooo close to just saying it’s FlyLo…soooo close

I experienced a disconnect with the spirit of this album in retrospect. At first listen I was mesmerized by the psychedelic beats and the sound of the vocals but upon further reflection I really didn’t understand what the lyrical content was trying to do. This project could have been much more poetic in my opinion if the lyrical content focused more on Cults, cult leadership, and other tributaries of that way of thinking. It’s “cooler” (i don’t know how else to put this) to think of captain murphy as this cartoon character who is obsessed with Cultish ways of thinking and not as a cult leader himself. I want to tell him to stop trying so hard. The more you paint yourself to be a bad ass cult leader the less likely I am to believe you. A rapping / cult obsessed nerd / cartoon character is pretty interesting though. I just wish FlyLo had explored more of this lyrically.

BBC Newsnight interviewed some Odd Future fans about why they listen to the music and spend so much money on shirts and such. The conclusion being: kids like OddFuture because they “can say whatever they want and get away with it” and these kids wish the same for themselves.
So maybe Captain Murphy is trying to do the same thing with his lyrical content?
I’m not sure but let me know what you think about all this.
    Best,
    Adam
