Hopsin- “Ill Mind of Hopsin 5″

My introduction to Louisiana rapper Hopsin was this video, which was pretty hyped at the time thanks to a few jabs at Tyler, the Creator. I was impressed with the flow, but thought the dude’s style was a little too cartoony, gimmicky, and Eminem-inspired.

While I feel like Hopsin is still yet to completely develop his own style, this new track and video he’s got out is headed in the right direction. I’d be willing to say it’s the best song I’ve heard him drop so far.

“Ill Mind of Hopsin 5″ is not only delivered with a fiery flow, but Hopsin’s vocals are really impassioned and entertaining. Yeah, it’s still cartoony, but his zaniness makes the stereotypes he attacks throughout the verses pretty hilarious–despite being depressing in reality.

    sharing this shit right now.

Why does Hopsin think he’s so much better than everyone for making shitty horrorcore with corny self-loathing lyrics? I hate this guy so much.

    I think he’s positive….
    better than lil wayne

The lad has like 2 horrocore songs…get your head out of your arse man…

He has sick flow; don’t care for the beats. You don’t really have to think about the lyrics and what he’s saying. The whole thing comes off as pretty self-righteous.

I don’t think that’s for you to say. Maybe his flow and Em’s old flow are just similar. Just because things are similar doesn’t mean that they have anything to do with each other. For example, if a guy named John becomes a rapper, and he sounds like Jay-Z, but he’s never heard a Jay-Z song in his life, that must automatically mean he’s a Jay-Z fan, right? Or that he’s stealing his flow? The point i’m trying to make is that, there are so many rappers, and some of them are bound to sound similar, regardless of who they are inspired by. There are 7 billion people in the world, some of them are bound to look similar and sound similar, just because there are only so many variations. I realize you are a music critic, but come on, Anthony.

Louisiana rapper? Get your facts straight.

Hopsin is from Cali man. Sort it out.

and Bee, ur a prick mate, simple. What’s horrorcore about that man? a label to describe what it is he did in that track is something a narrow mind would crave, that is intricate observation and realistic commentry and funnily enough he refers to dumb shits like YOU that eat whatever they are fed #ignoranceisbliss i bet youre a Soulja Boy fan. and real talk, he IS better than 99% of MC’s he will ever encounter but doesnt get the ratings cos he aint conforming to rap that you like (not really rap). Watch man he’ll be HUGE and u’ll still be beating ur meat to a Britney track bitchin about irrelevant issues. wise up son.

Can’t believe anybody likes this trash. These lyrics could have been written by a twelve year old, but even twelve year olds have enough dignity not to. I guess his flow isn’t bad, probably because it isn’t his to begin with. The production though……oh boy. Never heard anything worse.

Anthony, if you think that this is anything better than a light 2, I’ve lost all hope.

You don’t know what the fuck real rap is! Its funny you call this music video trash, you must be a young money dick rider who only cares about how bomb the beat is. Hopsin will shit on any “rapper” in this rap industry besides eminem. And btw if this was really trash you wouldn’t of wasted your time leaving your opinion in the first place.

It’s all coming from feelings of rejection. He’s just trying to re-frame it so he can cope. Hopsin’s always seemed pretty transparent to me. There’s not a whole lot of mystery to him.

He really calls out people that piss me off. I’m glad to see a new take on rap. I feel like there are so many rappers saying similar shit. Its nice to see someone who has a different opinion. I don’t really like his raps, but he himself seems cool. I don’t think hes self righteous I just think hes trying to convey a message about these people fucking up their lives because they make stupid mistakes, and do things that are conceived as acceptable, and sometimes even encouraged in the rap community. Rap doesn’t have to be hyping things that are inappropriate, and petty. I think that’s what Hopsin stands for.

I want to find just the vocal track so I can add a different beat to it~
