Red Horse is an intense improvisational noise duo. They’re made up of percussionist Eli Keszler and guitarist Steve Pyne. The five tracks they’ve pulled together on this debut album are pretty fantastic. They highlight everything I love about noise, live instrumentation, and improvisation.
The music here ranges from intriguing to deeply disturbing. Sometimes, the sounds feel like they’re reaching right into my ear canal and attempting to remove my brain.
I’m sure we’ve all run across noise music like this, but the improvisational–almost jazzy, really–elements here really keep me locked into what’s going on. Keszler’s drum playing really shines on moments like “Part Two,” which builds into a frightening wall of drums, dissonant tones, and rumbles.
Enjoy the stream above and find this album on Type Records.

Part 2 is terrifying, but my ears; they can’t look (hear?) away!

Part 2 has to be among the most interesting noise tracks I’ve ever heard

I can see what you mean bout being inside of a huge machine. really unsettling stuff. On track 2, I feel like there is so much tension, and weight. It is mechanical…but this machine could fall apart at any second. The thing that keeps my interest is that the whole track is saturated with Dirt and history like it really is the sound of something that is 10000 years old.

How can people enjoy listening to stuff like that.

I thought this kind of music was called “dark ambient”
